Brown Intl. Elementary School- it's personal
22 Mar
Last week my son informed me that the “warriors” were going to be visiting his school. After a while, I was able decipher the warriors as being lawyers. Then he noted that the school was going to be on TV. Well, as any good mother would do- I called another mother to find out exactly what was up.
It turns out that our school had been selected as representation of a “turn around school” and thus warranted a site visit from Arne Duncan- US Education Secretary and Michael Bennet- one our State Senators (and whom I have the utmost respect for- he is great in person, because he shows up “REAL”). This is an incredible validation that parental involvement and a strong vision of the Principal/leadership is the right mix for change. I believe in International Baccalaureate Program (IB) as a first choice for a lasting philosophy of education for my son as he progresses through his many more years in school.
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, right, talks Friday with first-grader Ella Burch at Brown International Academy in Denver. At rear is DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg. (Andy Cross, The Denver Post ) Read more: http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_14713103#ixzz0iwDoZuay
You will find a video of Arne speaking at the school on the Obama Video Channel
So, if it is change we want, then it must first start at home. I believe it is a lesson we can all use.
