I ran across a classic TED video today.  As I watched it (and of course shared it with everyone in my office) I couldn’t help but remember the session I attended at SXSW .  How to Spark a Movement #sparkamovement by Scott Heiferman.  Watch the video and then I will try to tie both of the ideas together.

OK…so I am going to try an experiment.  I taped an audio that unpacks the ideas from Derek’s TED video and Scotts talk at SXSW.  What I know is that after rerecording this 3x (I will work on saying um too many times), I have decided to let it go and put it out there.  Hopefully you will get something out of it.  And…if you weren’t at the talk at SX you will have a little glimpse into a session there.  You can also tap into the twitter feed that I listed above.

We just received the map that was captured on Monday night at the CREATE DENVER – Creatives Journey from Survival to Success to Significance sponsored by the Thriving Artist Alliance.

If there is one thing to note in the map, it would the idea that each of the panelists confirmed…. the ladder in the center of the circle symbolizes the continual rising and climbing…from survival to significance.  And… the definition of significance might be different than you would think.  Significance for each of the particpants included being a part of something bigger than themselves.  I found that to be poignant!  Where we might at first assume money/fame/fortune would be the defined end game..it just wasn’t.  There were some really good ideas that came when the question “what is risk”. 

Mickey Zeppelin contributed the idea that when we are evaluating risk…we use a few processes and some evaluation, we can at least answer the question…is this a stupid idea or a brilliant one.   The other point that was re-emphasized over and over again… we just need to JUMP!  Go for it… get a plan together or at least have a VISION… and GO!

We have a video taped that will unpack the video and we will be posting that tomorrow.  Then you can follow us using this map and video.  We are focused on capturing and catalyzing conversations that matter… I believe this is one of those!

Last night was really special.  Denver was tapped as a hub for Cultural Creatives by Mayor John Hickenlooper a few years ago.  The office of CREATE DENVER  was created to help support this privotal population.  Every year, one week in April is designated to support creatives through diverse programming as CREATE DENVER WEEK.  I was lucky enough to partner with Laura Cowperthwaite (I share an incredible IDEA mastermind group with her too) on a panel discussion that discussed “The Creatives Journey from Survival to Success to Significance” .  My role, it won’t surprise you…was to MAP the conversation.  The panel consisted Mickey Zeppelin,  Sarah Benvenuti, Ivar Zeile and Matt Amundsun.  In addition, Laura worked with a PODCASTING team and we took turns…talking about ideas. 

This is the map as it was completed.  I will have a high res file ready for download tomorrow.
